One of my players suggested to give Trinity a more Anime-style flair.

Like Ghost in the Shell, Akira etc ...

Now I'm no Pro at Anime or Manga, so I'd be happy for some ideas how to do that.

My ideas this far would be
- give the character more "hitpoints" and faster regeneration rate
- melee weapons do much more damage
- special awards for skill ratings of 4 (it's possible to spend two willpower points)
- special awards for skill ratings of 5 (one willpower gives two extra dice instead of one)

Got any more?  smile.gif

I'd take a look at the Adventure rules - inspiration, dramtic editing, knacks, 6 dot abilities, Background enhancements and cliffhangers - all could be ported across for a more "wham bam" style game.

Faster regen and more health doesn't sit well with me - there's a lot of blood and death in most of the anime I watch.

Try doubling bashing soak and giving each player a lethal soak equal to Stamina instead.

Which Anime are we talking about?  Dragon Ball Z?
And Brick by Brick we shall build a Wall.

That's what you get for Skimming Alex...he mentioned 2 animes...Ghost in the Shell and Akira...neither of which are the cheese fest of DragonBall.

I also agree that using the Adbventure rules would anime things considerably as the rules create a very atmospheric and cinemtaic style of play.

Remember, there is no such genre as anime.  Let me say that again.  Anime is not a genre.  Anime is a medium, that encompasses many different artistic styles and actually encompasses any genre you would care to thinkof, from action, to kid fare, to romance, drama, sci-fi, mystery, pulp and of course, pornography.

The only thing anime has in common is that it is an animated film format and comes from the sensibilities, perspectives and culture of the Japanese people.

Ahm Dragonball ? You kiddin me ?

Well SkyLion, of course you are right.
And with warped tentacle-swinging Abberants in the picture, Hentai comes to my mind !
No just kiddin  wink.gif

Actually I've taken so much classes about Japanese culture at the University that I'm feeling a bit ashamed that I wasn' more specific  biggrin.gif

The Core book mentions Macross, Akira and Ghost in the Shell as references.
It also mentions Aria and Gundam which I don't know  tongue.gif

I don't know much about Gundam either (beyond it being a mecha piloting/warfare show), but I know the other title quite well. It's correct title is Iria: Zeiram the Animation, & it likely can be found at your local Fry's Electronics or the better anime stores. One tip, though: it's best to avoid the live-action movie like the plague.

Akira and Ghost in the Shell always seemed more Cyberpunk to me than Trinity IMO.

However if you wanted to 'Anime-up' your game, I think you can do it just through the Storytelling half of the game instead of the mechanics, e.g.

"You kill goon 1 with your pyrokinetic shot."

could become,

"Leaping at your foe, screaming like a banshee, you unleash Hell's fury upon this pathetic villain, causing his soul to wither before your awesome wrath, blood rushes from the wound like a Venetian fountain, covering you in toasted chunks of would-be adversary, the smell of backyard BBQ permeating the air.  "

A little over the top and maybe stereotyped, but I think the point was made...heh

(Turns brain back on) Akira... is an interesting example.  You can definitely see the "god like power leading to god like madness" theme in there.
And Brick by Brick we shall build a Wall.

Yeah, Akira has a lot to offer for players of Trinity and Aberrant, in both the anime/movie and the manga versions. Watching Tetsuo's power-meltdown is probably one of the best examples of a nova hitting Taint 10 I've ever seen.

Cthulhutech is also very much anime inspired...the parapsychic powers are fairly directly lifted from Akira..complete with your power going out of control (called Burning) and Zoners whos power makes them go mad...

I think adapting some things from there will do for more anime style.

I'd throw in a plug for the Mutants & Masterminds system on this topic, for three reasons:

1.  Its a flexible system that covers any game that isn't gritty and realistic

2.  Paragons.  The closest thing to Aberrant 2.0 that anyone is likely to ever see.

3.  Mecha & Manga.  An explicit anime genre book

If you're looking for anime-based game that can provide lots of insight into the medium's tropes, try BESM 3rd Edition. You'll probably have to get it as a PDF if White Wolf /Arthaus isn't selling the dead tree version anymore, but the "storytelling notes" (for lack of a better term) will be very helpful.

OTOH, is money is an issue you can always check out the TV Tropes Wiki - they have a huge list of anime-specific tropes & other tropes used in anime.

Agreed about Mutants & Masterminds being useful, esp. Paragons and Mecha & Manga.
